What is The Puritan Project?

The Puritan Project seeks to strengthen pastors and leaders in the Portuguese-speaking church by helping them recover or discover the Reformed Faith, and especially the Doctrines of Grace.
In 1992, Olin Coleman, (Presbyterian Missionary to Brazil), Rev. Josafa Vasconcelos (Presbyterian Pastor), and Dr. Manoel Canuto (Presbyterian elder and pediatric surgeon) joined together to begin a project to translate theological works by Reformed authors into Portuguese. The goal was to equip pastors and leaders in the Brazilian Presbyterian Church to return to the preaching and teaching of the Doctrines of Grace. Since their first book was by a Puritan author, the project was named “The Puritan Project”. Soon, a magazine called “Os Puritanos” was added and grew to several thousand subscriptions. The 20th annual symposium in north and central Brazil was held in July 2011. Also in 2008, the Center for Reformed Literature was opened in downtown Recife, a city of over 2 million people.
